The Waterline wins gold at Restaurant and Caterers Awards

The Waterline Restaurant chefs are back and their bags are heavy with one Gold and two major awards of excellence from the Savour Australia Restaurant and Catering Awards for Excellence held in Brisbane on Monday.

The Waterline Restaurant took out gold for Café of the year – Best Café Dining in Queensland and Northern Territory. This is the first time a regional venue outside the South East corner has received this prestigious accolade.

Adding icing to the cake for the popular Yeppoon dining venue, The Waterline Restaurant also took out major awards for Best Breakfast Restaurant in North Queensland and Best Café Dining in North Queensland.

The Waterline Restaurant General Manager Kylie Smith said it was fantastic recognition for the drive and hard work the team inject into making the restaurant great.

“To know that the path The Waterline Restaurant is on is resonating with both our customers and the industry is an amazing result,” she said.

The Savour Australia Awards for Excellence is a nationally recognised, independently judged awards program that recognises exceptional service and culinary talent across Australia.

According to Executive Chef Matt Smith it is such an honour to be recognised in the industry as being the best in Queensland at what they do.

“These three awards are an amazing achievement for our team, and well deserved acknowledgement of their passion and professionalism,” he said.

“And for tourism in our region this award is incredibly significant. Tourism Australia tells us that 36% of travellers rank Good Food and Wine as the top emotional factor in selecting a destination. And here we are on the Capricorn Coast with the Best Café Dining experience in the whole of Queensland and the Northern Territory!”

So does this mean the Waterline Restaurant can sit back and relax after such a great win? Apparently not. It’s business as usual, all be it with an award winning buzz in the air.

“Our Chefs are already back from Brisbane doing what they love most; testing, tasting and creating new flavours for new menus rolling out in coming weeks.

Smith says while they have previously won awards fine dining and contemporary Australian cuisine the Waterline Restaurant’s focus has evolved.

“In the past year our direction has been to go back to our roots offering more relaxed and affordable café style dining without compromising on the quality of our food and beverage service,” she said.

That dining includes paddock to plate experiences and features local produce like Banana Station Beef, local Keppel Bay reef fish and seafood, MMM avocados and mangos and pure gold pineapples.

And will the Best Café Dining venue in Queensland make it to the National awards for Restaurant and Catering Excellence?

“We sure will, we can’t wait to head to Peninsula in Victoria on Monday 30 October to see if we can take out national gold for the Waterline Restaurant and the Capricorn region,” Ms Smith said.
