“Banana Station” Beef is produced on the Wilson Family’s group of beef cattle properties located in Central Queensland.
Banana Station was first selected in 1853 by Norman and James Leith-Hay, sheep farmers from Scotland. In April 1959 the Wilson family acquired Banana Station from the Edward Farmer Estate. Richard and Libbie Wilson [developers of Keppel Bay Marina] took on operation of Banana Station properties in 1975.
Richard and Libbie led the beef industry in innovation, pioneering cross breeding and extensive beef cattle production research in the 1970’s and 80’s. Richard and Libbie’s vision was to “produce the most productive cattle at the least cost by selection for growth, reproduction and carcase traits under commercial grass pasture conditions.
This vision is carried on today, with son Mark operating the Banana Station properties, and daughter Annie operating the Baranga Grazing group, both producing award winning grass fed MSA beef primarily for the export market.
Daughter Kylie operates the Waterline Restaurant, marketing beef from both enterprises as BANANA BEEF, served exclusively at the Waterline Restaurant, Keppel Bay Marina.
